A south side neighborhood has been left shaken and scared Wednesday following a homicide there.
They're worried, not just because it happened there, but because it happened in broad daylight.
20-year old Christopher Byers was gunned down at his home on Frazier Avenue in Des Moines around 2:30 p.m.
Police are still on the hunt for his killer.
Neighbors described the scene.
"I was on my back porch having lunch and watching my grandchildren play in the water and having a good time and I heard what I thought were fireworks and I heard pop, pop and a few minutes later some squealing tires," Debbie Gray said.
Neighbor, Gray added, "I was scared to death for my grandchildren. We were right outside. It happened right under my nose."
Neighbors say they're upset by what happened but not surprised. Many believe this was a drug house. That's something police are looking into.
“With what's been going on at that house, that's not really surprising,” neighbor Tom Rexroat said.
“There's been some activity there that I haven't been liking. But I reported it to authorities and they say they've been looking at it and watching it and stuff like that. (I’ve seen) a lot of people going in and out of there real quickly. That kind of stuff. There was a fight there earlier this week."
Neighbors say it’s frightening for someone to be killed here in broad daylight with children playing outside.
Police say they believe the suspect sped off in a blue or purple van with gold accents. If you see the van, don’t approach the vehicle but call Des Moines police.
