RISING WATER: Independence Residents Evacuate

It was a day of cleanup and damage assessment in New Hartford Wednesday.

Homeowners were forced out of town when the Beaver Creek flooded Tuesday.

As the water receded, the work cleaning up the muddy mess left behind began.

While the water drops in New Hartford, it’s still rising in the town of Independence. The Wapsipinicon River isn’t expected to crest until sometime early Thursday morning.

When it does, it will be its third highest crest in history.

Homeowners near the river are being asked to voluntarily evacuate to drier ground until the river drops
