A central Iowa college is now the home to a sculpture of a famous painting.
A 25-foot statue of Grant Wood’s famous American Gothic painting arrived on Simpson College’s campus in Indianola Wednesday morning.
The 30-thousand-pound statue came in eight pieces on two trucks.
It took over six hours to assemble and crews will be adding touch up paint Thursday.
The piece travels around the country and becomes a sort of tourist attraction. The Simpson professor that secured the piece says people are already commenting.
“I tell you the best comment, ‘didn’t know Indianola was this cool!’ I thought that was a great comment,” Bill Friedricks said.
It’ll be near the Kent Campus Center for the next six months.
The only other Iowa city the sculpture has been in is Dubuque.
