MURPHY’S LAW: Cubs Win, White Scores, Heat Laughs

The I-Cubs are 43-42, and still lead their division by three games…

It didn’t take long to see Iowa assistant football coach D.J. Hernandez will have constant reminders his brother Aaron is charged with murder. Not that D.J. needs a reminder, no brother would. U of Iowa sports information confirmed to the Iowa City Press Citizen’s Pat Harty that D.J. was in a Connecticut diner over the weekend when a brawl started over a case of mistaken identity. Two of the men arrested say it started when someone thought D.J. was Aaron. (One place you won’t find Aaron Hernandez these days is at a diner eating a blue plate special.) D.J.  Hernandez was gone by the time police arrived, and he’s not accused of any wrongdoing…

D.J. Hernandez, not surprisingly, looks like his younger brother, Aaron.

Iowa doesn’t need to say anything regarding Aaron’s murder charge–D.J. is not responsible for the alleged actions of his brother–but concern for D.J.’s focus this season is understandable. It’s hard to put myself in D.J.’s shoes, but if it were my brother in jail, I might need to take a leave of absence. However, D.J. doesn’t need me, or anyone else, telling him what he should do…

Deion Branch needs to be careful with his supportive words of Aaron Hernandez, or no team will employ Branch. Branch said, “Aaron is a great guy and a great friend of mine and a great teammate… I love him to death.” The more we learn, the more disturbing Aaron Hernandez is. Branch needs a job, and his well-intended words could scare off a team…

Latest sign of the apocalypse: Aaron Hernandez jerseys are selling for $250 on ebay…

Aaron White is a guy so lightly recruited, he doesn’t realize how good he is. Making Team USA will boost White’s confidence, and his game. That can only help Iowa next season…

I love the message on this photo from SI.com:

That’s oversimplifying, but larger point taken, and applied to broadcasting as well…

After Maria Sharapova was upset at Wimbledon, Martina Navratilova said Serena Williams just needs to stay on her feet to win the title. I knew right then Serena would be upset…

The tired buddy cop movie formula gets a jolt of energy from The Heat. It’s a good movie elevated to must-see status by Melissa McCarthy’s hilariously profane performance. McCarthy is in rare comedic air with both physical gags, and line deliveries. She’s also gets good support and considerable chemistry from he mismatched partner, Sandra Bullock. This movie is not for kids, and there’s something to offend nearly everyone, but it’s a fun crowd-pleaser. A-
