A man from Eastern Iowa is recovering at the University of Iowa Hospitals after being attacked by two large pit bulls.
Clinton police say 31-year-old Benjamin Nave was walking when he was attacked by the dogs. According to a neighbor named Dick Dehaven, the owner kept the two dogs in his basement, where they had gotten out unleashed several times.
Dehaven adds that he was not surprised by the attack.
“They didn’t look real friendly, let me tell ya and I know those kinds of dogs you can train them to do whatever you want them to do. They can be really nice dogs or not so nice and I think that’s what they were,” he says.
When Clinton police arrived on the scene, they tried to shoot the dogs. One dog was killed, while the other ran away and is still believed to be on the loose.
Police have not filed any charges against the dog’s owner as of Wednesday.
