A man is dead after a two-car accident in Dallas County.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of 250th and U Avenue between Dallas Center and Grimes just after 9:30 Wednesday night.

The Iowa state patrol says Michael McAfee failed to stop at a stop sign heading west on 250th.

He was hit by another car heading south on U avenue.

Both cars landed in the ditch.

A passenger in one of the cars, 31-year old Gregory Anderson, died in the crash.

The driver of that car, 58-year old Kent Mills, was also hurt, though his condition hasn’t been made public.

Paramedics took McAffee by air ambulance to the hospital where he is listed in good condition.

The Iowa state patrol is investigating why McAffee failed to stop at the intersection.

The 4th of July is typically one of the deadliest holidays on the road.
