The 4th of July is a great holiday. Great weather, great food, parades, fireworks, all around a lot of fun. We went to the Urbandale parade. There had to have been at least 10,000+ people lined up along Aurora, maybe more. My daughter is 2 so she doesn’t fully understand the concept of a parade, but she enjoyed seeing the cars, firetrucks, drums, dancers, getting candy, etc. But, the loud horns and whistles about scared the bejesus out of her.
Royce White is traded to the 76ers. Chalk me up as ‘not surprised.’ White never played a minute for the Rockets in the regular season, so Houston saying adios to Royce isn’t surprising. Philly gives up ‘future draft considerations’ for White. I’m not an NBA trade expert, but anytime there isn’t an actual player involved that tells me the 76ers basically got Royce for free. He has the talent to play in the NBA, but off the court is a whole other problem. I’ll be interested to see how Philadelphia helps him with his anxiety.
Lolo Jones will not run in any more track meets the rest of the year. Jones instead will concentrate on bobsledding, yes bobsledding. Lolo is training to qualify for the 2014 winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The US will likely get at least 3 bobsled teams so Lolo has to be one of the 3 best ‘pushers’ or ‘brakemen’ in the US to make the team.
Lolo will have to make some time for a dinner date sometime soon. One of Jones’ followers on twitter asked Lolo if he got 150,000 retweets would she go on a date with him? Lolo’s response. “Ok, I’ll be waiting.” Well, her plan backfired. Harry Lyles Jr (aka Bubby Lyles on twitter) got to 150K retweets in about 2 weeks, and Jones says she WILL go on a date with him. Lolo’s twitter response…
“@harrylylesjr 2x Olympic champ
@elsupersanchez ran down to the dining hall and told me the news. I cant wait to go out on our date!”
Lyles is a journalism student at Georgia State
The Houston Rockets have reportedly landed Dwight Howard. Wait, this just in the Lakers are still in the mix…Whats that? Dwight says no to the Lakers? Ok got it. I’m glad this drama is all over. I’ve never been a huge Howard fan, good player, but lots of drama. I think he’s a bit overrated. Off the court, that’s another story…Most people forget this part of Howard’s life, coming out of high school Howard was incredibly religious. He wanted to spread his strong religious beliefs to the rest of the NBA. Yea, that never happened…
The Iowa cubs have a 4 game lead in the Northern division despite being just 2 games over .500. I hope they can stay towards the top the rest of the summer, it will make games more interesting, not to mention crowds a lot larger.
T-minus 5 1/2 months till ‘Anchorman 2.’ I really hope it doesn’t suck…Here’s the trailer.
