MURPHY’S LAW: Ferentz Ranking, White Fatigue, Ray Donovan

Kirk Ferentz is not one of the worst college football coaches in America. I don’t care what Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel says. That’s just silly,  a way to generate web hits during the sports dead zone. There’s a reason Mandel picked high profile names like Ferentz, Lane Kiffin, and Charlie Weis. It outrages more people if the names are familiar.

That’s not to say Ferentz doesn’t deserve criticism. He does. Iowa grew stale and predictable on Ferentz’s watch. The Hawks enter the season on a six game losing streak. Ferentz is paid millions to win, and Hawk fans have had a whole lot of mediocre recently.

Still, this is the same guy who’s lead Iowa to four top ten finishes, one of those in 2009.  The guaranteed contract worth tens of millions created outsize expectations, and Iowa hasn’t come close to reaching them. Ferentz is no longer a top ten coach, but bottom five? Come on…

Cleveland Browns fan Scott Entsminger had a sense of humor. In his obituary, Entsminger requested six pallbearers wearing Browns jerseys so the team can let him down one more time…

The first episode of Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” was so good, I feared a letdown on show #2. It was even better.  It’s violent, tense, and at times, touching. If you can see it, don’t miss it. Parental guidance a must for, well, everything
