A former volunteer firefighter’s request for a new trial has been denied.

A jury found 19-year-old Brett Graham guilty of second degree arson in June. He used to volunteer with the Kelley Fire Department.

Officials say Graham set a barn fire in January that killed 12 horses.

The judge denied the motion for a new trial. Graham is still scheduled to be sentenced on July 19th.

He is also accused of setting three other fires in Story County. The trial on those charges is scheduled for October.
