A tragic end to the holiday weekend in northeast Iowa after a man drowned at George Wyth Lake late Sunday afternoon.

Just after 5:00 p.m., rescue crews were called to the beach area after other swimmers noticed 32-year-old Salvador Quinto Amezcua had been under water for some time. They brought him to shore before rescue crews could arrive.

It’s not clear how long he was under water. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Signs are posted at the park cautioning people that there is no lifeguard at the beach.
