A body found in the Cedar River in Waterloo Tuesday has been identified.

Police say 35-year-old Shanda Werkmeister was discovered Tuesday afternoon. A witness called police about a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the 3900 block of Texas Street since Sunday. Police discovered the vehicle belonged to Werkmeister’s mother, who hadn’t seen her daughter in a couple of days.

After searching the area, officers discovered Werkmeister’s body in the river.

An autopsy is being performed Thursday to determine the cause of death.
