The name of a man killed Tuesday when he fell into a Webster County grain bin has been released.
The Webster County sheriff’s office says Brandon Mullen of Harcourt died in the accident.
“He was one of the hardest workers I know, just like yesterday he was scooping corn on an unbearably hot day when nobody else would even think about it,” friend, Jesse Green remembers .
Mullen was only 30-years old and had farmed his whole life. Tuesday, Mullen was removing corn from a grain bin northwest of Dayton when he was sucked in.
“There a lot of things going on. When you have a flow of grain you don’t think about it but it can suck you in so fast and rarely is there someone close by to help pull you out of the grain,” Green says.
There were two other farmers with Mullen at the time of the accident but the grain quickly engulfed the victim.
Rescue crews cut holes into the silo to lower the level of the corn quickly but it was too late.
County Deputy Rod Strait says Mullen was submerged in the bin for about an hour and was pronounced at dead at the scene.
