The Des Moines Water Works says it needs your help to fight a dangerous problem.

The company says the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers have too much nitrate concentration.

The high levels are unsafe for some Iowans including babies under the age of six months.

The company is using other water supplies like Maffitt Reservoir and it is running a nitrate removal facility at max capacity.

The company is asking customers to reduce lawn watering in order to conserve water. They are suggesting you irrigate on an even-odd schedule. That means if your address ended in an odd number you should water on odd days.
