Johnston High School hasn't made it to state baseball since winning it all in 2009. But the Dragons may have found just the thing to get them back.
This season, they have consistently been ranked in the top 10 of Class 4 all season. They’ve got the pitching, the defense and the offense but early in the season Coach Barta noticed something that had to be changed.
“Every coach knows what I’m talking about. Those days when you walk in the ball park a little sluggish,” Barta says.
They got the skills but have lacked that one variable but then they found it.
The energy ball, what was once a giveaway at the Iowa Energy basketball game is now source to remind the Johnston baseball team that baseball is still what it`s always been, “Baseball is a slower game. It`s not football it`s not basketball. We keep it fun. All the guys in our dugout that are not our usual everyday players love it,” Barta says.
The orange ball can`t throw strikes or drive in game winning runs but it could be that good luck charm that help`s the Dragons get back to state.
