Lolo Jones can’t stay out of the news, even when she wants. As first reported by Fox Sports Radio’s Amy Van Dyken (6-time gold medalist), Lolo is alleged to have been in a bar fight. Van Dyken cites unnamed sources who say Lolo punched out the stepdaughter of a bobsled official after midnight in a Lake Placid bar.  Deadspin.com reports one witness claims Lolo just pushed the drunken stepdaughter to the ground, and then the two had to be separated outside.

We don’t know that any of this is true, but it sure seems something happened. The United States Bobsled Federation now confirms it is investigating. Van Dyken says she’s most disturbed at the apparent cover-up. If an effort were made to keep it all quiet, it’s a sign just how much bobsledding wants Lolo around for attention and publicity, not to mention her pushing speed. Meantime, Lolo has been as quiet as she was while leaving Drake Stadium after the U-S Championships. This will all pass. …

The MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby isn’t perfect. Too much Gatorade product placement, too many back-back-backs, and WAY too many swing. But it’s still cool to see a man hit a ball that far. …

Coolest moment at the actual game, a no-doubter. Mariano Rivera taking the mound in the 8th inning to Metallica’s Enter Sandman. It helped quickly erase the awkward moment of Neil Diamond having a mid-mound concert to a song New Yorkers don’t want to hear, Sweet Caroline. Who thought that was a good idea? …

Mets all-star pitcher Matt Harvey interviewing Mets fans about what they think of Matt Harvey is the best thing on Jimmy Fallon this week.

Well, best thing on Fallon not counting when Fallon says this each night:

So that’s what Honey Boo Boo’s mom looks like. I’ve never seen the show. …

Sage Rosenfels retires after 12 years in the NFL. Good guy. Sage hadn’t thrown a regular season pass in five years, but he’ll still pull a big pension. Good for him. …

According to Forbes, the top three most valuable sports franchises in the world all play football, or what we call soccer. The Yankees rank #4, Cowboys #5. I’ve been hearing all my life that soccer is gaining in popularity in the United States, and for the first time, I think it’s true. It’s trending up, for sure. …

Wednesday is the deadest day of the year in sports. So there’s that. …
