Des Moines Area Community College students are proving all you need is one hour to better the community.
The students decided to landscape Des Moines Fire Station #4 Tuesday. The group had just over an hour to finish the work at 917 University Avenue.
The class selected the location as a sort of tribute after 19 fire fighters died last month during the wildfires in Arizona.
The students bought all the supplies, planted bushes, flowers and laid mulch. The finishing touch was a painted rock trail.
“In class we were talking about how rocks are a concrete piece of history and so I decided to have students pain their own rocks, so that way they could leave their piece of history here in the service project and that’s what they decided to do,” says instructor Nicole Hardin
The service project was part of an orientation class called “The College Experience”.
