A West Des Moines man is facing charges for allegedly hitting a state trooper’s car while driving drunk.

The trooper was running radar in the median on I-80 near Iowa City.

The state patrol says Jonathon McFall swerved and hit the trooper’s vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

The 23-year old driver is charged with OWI and reckless driving.

The officer was taken to a hospital but later released.

Another trooper’s car was also hit responding to the scene but no citations were issued.

The Iowa Department of Public safety say 24 officers across the country have been killed in traffic collisions across the country in 2013. They’re reminding drivers to move over or slow down for emergency and recovery vehicles.
