The man accused of killing a Marshalltown woman over the weekend says he didn’t really mean to kill her.

The Marshalltown Times-Republican reports that’s what 40-year-old Matthew Irving said during a video conference with a judge Wednesday.

Irving is charged with first degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Rebecca Hall. Hall’s body was found in a minivan parked just east of Marshalltown early Sunday morning by a Marshall County sheriff’s deputy.

Autopsy results for Hall are still pending.

Deputies, along with DCI agents, arrested Irving late Tuesday night.

He is in the Marshall County Jail on a bond of $1 million.
