All Iowa 7th graders are required to have a new vaccine this fall.

Students entering 7th grade or born on or after September 15th, 2000 will be set for a Tdap booster vaccination before enrolling.

The shot protects students from tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis, better known as whooping cough.

The move comes after there was a 417-percent increase in whooping cough cases in Iowa last year.

The Polk County Health Department is offering free starting vaccinations this Thursday for adolescents 10 through 18 years of age on the following dates:

Thursday July 25, 2013 3:00 pm – 8:00pm

Tuesday July 30, 2013 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Saturday August 3, 2013 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
