Two people were injured in a construction accident in West Des Moines Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to 1665 Walnut Woods Drive around 11:21 a.m. Officials say two men fell about 35 feet from the roof of a house under construction. David Edgar with West Des Moines EMS says it appeared the men were installing trusses for an expansion to the house when the trusses separated from the main structure and collapsed.

The men, identified as 46-year-old David Evans and 35-year-old Eli Parsons, landed on the construction debris.

One of the men had back injuries and the other was believed to have a collapsed lung.

Evans was in critical condition and transported to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Parsons has serious injuries and was taken to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

An investigation into the accident continues.
