With thousands of RAGBRAI participants in Des Moines Tuesday evening, downtown wasn't just for riders.
The theme for downtown’s party was Des Moines Even Better In Spandex!
The city planned for months to gear up for a big party including music, entertainment, and lots of food and drink vendors.
Riders say they appreciate the hospitality, “You get to cross the state and the people are awesome, it`s the Midwestern thing, I get it a little bit in Minneapolis as well but RAGBRAI is the only place in the whole country that does it,” says Craig Oskow.
The 14 time RAGBRAI veteran says on top of the great people he has met along the way he loves the parties each overnight town puts on.
The downtown party kicked off Tuesday afternoon with live music with riders and non-riders alike enjoying the party atmosphere.
Over 300 volunteers put in hundreds of hour to transform the Walnut and Court Avenue bridges. They were both llined with food vendors, a beer garden, and several companies selling sports merchandise.
Organizers for Des Moines' downtown party say they wanted to show the city off and all it has to offer.
They hope by doing so, riders from out of town will want to come back and visit.
Everclear performed on the main stage on Court Avenue Tuesday night. They were followed by fireworks.
