A Winterset man is facing charges for allegedly setting a fire then leading officers on a high-speed chase.

Winterset police responded to a small apartment fire on Mills Street around midnight Tuesday. After investigating, police began looking for 42-year-old Timothy Potterfield.

Des Moines police found him around 4:00 a.m. in a car near 21st and University. He led police on a chase, ran several stop lights and hit 60 miles per hour in a 25 zone.

After several twists and turns police says he drove onto train tracks and got stuck near Wayne Street and Cleveland Avenue.

Potterfield was taken into custody without incident.

He’s charges with arson, eluding and driving with a suspended license.
