A gas line leak forced some homes in a Des Moines neighborhood to be evacuated Wednesday morning.

Around 10:30 a.m., a city construction crew hit a gas line while working on another project at 29th and Kingman.

Firefighters, hazmat and MidAmerican Energy crews were called in to assess the situation.

Firefighters had to evacuate a few homes and MidAmerican says once repairs to the line start, they’ll shut off the gas to some of the other surrounding homes.

They expect services to be back on by the end of the day.
