It was another short trip for RAGBRAI riders Wednesday with the route taking them 49-miles to Knoxville.

This is the 41st year for RAGBRAI and Ed Gelles has ridden most of them.

Still going strong in his 70s, Gelles started riding in the late 80s after his brother challenged him to do RAGBRAI.

Gelles still rides the same rusty bike from his first trip, 27 years later.

“Everybody wants a picture of it, everybody wants to talk about it. I have my t-shirt and on the back it says ‘1939 man, 1941 Schwinn.”

Gelles has a badge from every ride and the memories to go with it.

Despite riding one of the oldest bikes on the route, Ed says he can keep up with the others even at aged 74.

Riders on RAGBRAI will head to Oskaloosa via Pella, Bussey and Beacon, Thursday.
