Gov. Terry Branstad’s father has passed away following a battle with cancer

Eighty-nine-year-old Edward Branstad died Friday morning in Mason City.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, Gov. Branstad said, “My father taught me the value of hard work, and instilled in me the values that guide me each day.”

He also said,”After a long, hard-fought battle with cancer, he is now at peace. I want to thank everyone for their prayers, well-wishes and offers of support as our whole family goes through this difficult time.”

Services for Edward Branstad have been scheduled for Sunday and Monday. Visitation will be Sunday at Salveson Hall on the campus of Waldorf College in Forest City from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service is Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Waldorf Auditorium, also on the campus of Waldorf College.
