ARSON ARREST: Vacant Des Moines Home Burns

A 19-year-old Des Moines man has been charged with second degree arson in connection with an early Friday morning house fire.

Firefighters were called to 2939 East Ovid just after 1:30 a.m. When they arrived they found the front of the home engulfed in flames.

Giudicessi says, “It appears to start on the lower level of the street side of the structure. Probably would be considered the living room area,” says Giudicessi.

District fire chief Joe Giudicessi says the home was unoccupied and no one was injured.

fireDes Moines police say Lequan Clark came to the scene of the fire and engaged officers in conversation. They became suspicious after some of the statements Clark made.

Clark has been arrested and is being held in the Polk County Jail on a bond of $10,000.

There was significant damage to the home. The damage is estimated at about $40,000.
