A Sac City man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his mother.

A judge sentenced 22-year-old Kirk Levin Friday morning in Sac County.

A jury convicted Levin of first degree murder in the death of his mother Marilyn Schmitt. Police found her body in her farmhouse last winter.

Authorities were told to go to the home by a woman whom Levin kidnapped. That woman was able to escape safely. She took the stand today saying she has forgiven Levin.

Before issuing the sentence the judge called Schmitt’s murder a vicious crime.
