The metro’s sweet tooth has helped raise a lot of money for Iowans battling blood cancers.

Hy-Vee donated nearly $2,200 to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training Tuesday.

The money is raised through Hy-Vee’s Cookies for a Cure Campaign.

For several weeks in June, Hy-Vee donated one cent for every cookie sold to Team in Training which Channel 13’s Sonya Heitshusen has been a part of.

Over the last three years all those cookies have added up to more than $10,000 dollars.

“We’ve identified a vast number of organizations we like to partner with,” says West Des Moines store director, Jim Carney. “They do a world of good for many people affected with this. It’s quite a terrible disease.”

All of the money raised through Cookies for a Cure goes to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s patient services and programs.
