The Des Moines City Council is moving forward with a possible increase in funding for the Grand Avenue Bridge Project after construction crews found boulders and debris under the bridge.
In order to keep the project on schedule the design plan needs to be changed which will cost more.
Des Moines residents say they don’t mind the city paying the extra expense to keep the project moving along and moving extra traffic out of neighborhoods.
Bonnie Amend says, “There will be cars stopped all past this street, both ways because traffic is tied up down at Ingersoll.”
The boulders mean construction crews must use a different type of temporary support system, which would cost the city an additional $175,000.
