OVERNIGHT FIRE: Two Homes Destroyed

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of an early morning fire that destroyed two homes in Ankeny Tuesday morning.

Crews were called to 2480 and 2470 Summer Park Drive at 1:58 a.m.

When they arrived they found two homes and a garage on fire.

Lieutenant Mark Dooley with the Ankeny Fire Department says there were eight people in the homes, but all were able to get out safely.  It is not known if the homes has smoke detectors.

Both homes are a total loss.

The Red Cross was called in to help the residents.

At this time fire officials do not know what caused the fire, or where it started.
