AMBER ALERT: Review Complete, Criteria Tweaked

Authorities have just finished reviewing the Iowa Amber Alert criteria.

The review was called for following recent Amber Alert activations and two high-profile kidnapping and murder investigations.

The review made a minor change to the language that sets the criteria for an alert to be issued. It now reads, “There is enough descriptive information about the child, abductor, or suspect’s vehicle to believe an immediate broadcast alert will help.”

The change means there are less requirements for an alert to be issued.

The review also suggests law enforcement interpret the criteria more broadly.

Finally, the discussion suggests more training on the criteria for officers.
