JOB SEEKERS: Hiring Our Heroes

New numbers show more veterans are getting jobs, but re-entering the workforce after a military career can be stressful.

It’s what many employers heard at a Hiring Our Heroes job fair in Davenport. In the last two years, the group has helped to connect more than 20,000 vets and their spouses with new jobs.

Tuesday’s event drew more than 200 job seekers and around 40 employers.

Iraq War veteran Bryan Hook is looking for work after his arsenal job was downsized.

“It’s a big step to retire out of the Army, a lot of uncertainty, but then a year later now I’m looking at having to get a new job just because this one is going away,” says Hook.

The national unemployment rate for veterans is dropping. In June, the figures mirrored the rate for all workers nationwide.
