The National Balloon Classic is taking flight in Indianola all this week having started last Friday night.
Unfortunately weather prevented the balloons from taking off Wednesday morning.
“Safety is everything here. We want to get a good show and we want to get targets, but in the end we want everyone to go home safe,” says director, Bill Clemons.
Pilots and crew members hung around until 8 a.m. hoping they could fly but, the clouds and fog didn’t lift in time.
The weather is looking good for Wednesday night’s flight that is set for after 6 p.m. A night glow extravaganza will follow.
A new balloon will join the others Wednesday night through Saturday featuring the Broadway hit, Wicked.
The show is coming back to the metro later this year.
“If you haven’t see the balloon, you have to come out and see it. It’s absolutely beautiful. Everyone is excited for it. And, of course it’s going to be at the Civic Center this fall,” says executive director, Staci Scheurenbrand.
Wednesday is also farmer appreciation night.
Organizers will thank about 800 farmers for allowing balloons to take off and land on their fields.
