An accident involving a semi in West Des Moines closed a portion of Valley West Drive, south of I-235 for a few hours Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened during the noon hour when a semi carrying a 50,000 to 60,000 pound concrete wall was trying to back into the construction site at Valley High School. The driver first turned onto a side street to prepare to back into the site, but made too sharp of a turn. West Des Moines police say the front end of the bed of the truck tipped onto its side and the concrete wall was about a 45 degree angle.

A portion of the road from Ashworth to Woodland was closed for a few hours. A crane had to be used to clear the road and it is now open.
