AMBER ALERT: Elizabeth’s Parents Support Change

The parents of one of the abducted and murdered Evansdale girls is praising a change to the Iowa Amber Alert guidelines.

Drew and Heather Collins lost their little girl, Elizabeth last summer.

She disappeared with her cousin Lyric Cook last summer near a community pond.

Wednesday, officials changed the Amber Alert wording removing “and” from the criteria.

Instead of having descriptive information about the child, kidnapper and the kidnapper’s vehicle, only one of the three is now required.

The Collins say the change could have made all the difference a year ago.

An alert was never issued because officers didn’t have a suspect or vehicle description.

The change came out on what would have been Elizabeth’s 10th birthday.

“When I woke up today and I was praying, ‘Lord, let something happen big today, even if it’s not huge,'” Heather Collins said. “Just to show that what we’re doing is what we should be doing.”

The review of the Iowa Amber Alert also suggested more law enforcement training.
