Des Moines East has taken its fair-share of lump when it comes to high school sports, so needless to say, the East-siders are ‘championship’ hungry. Johnston won their most recent baseball championship in 2008, but that drought has been long enough.

Scarlets jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Colby Carmichael drove in Chino Alcala and Robert Hansen in the 1st inning. It stayed that way until the 6th when the Dragons hung a 4-spot. Their first run came on a bases-loaded walk and it was followed up by a 2-RBI single by Alex McCune. Johnston returns to the 4A State Championship game with a 5-3 win.

Des Moines East finished with a school record 37 wins. Johnston plays Sioux City East at 8:00 PM on Saturday.
