Barbecue was on the menu at a relay race fundraiser in Des Moines and that wasn't all.

33 teams ran, biked, and boated through the capital city in the third annual Devour Des Moines Triathlon.

The event benefits a group called Buy Fresh, Buy Local.

The group works to raise awareness about the importance of supporting local growers.

In between each leg of the race, participants had to eat a meal provided by a local restaurant.

“It's a very unique event that brings together the athleticism that a lot of Des Moines residents show while tying in the local food scene,” said Mike Banasiak, Organizer of Devour Des Moines.

Prizes were not only awarded to the team finishing the race first but also for best costume and the team that ate the most.
