One Iowan is paying a little extra attention to the embassies closing in the Middle East.

Mary Kramer lives in Clive now, but served as the U.S. Ambassador to Barbados from 2003 to 2006.

In her three years as a diplomat she dealt with security threats, but none of this caliber.

Kramer says she isn’t necessarily worried about attacks on American soil as a result of the security threat overseas.

However, Americans living in or traveling to the region are in her thoughts and prayers.

“Putting so many embassies on alert and closing some is surprising. My fear is that we felt the need to do that because we’re not properly secured,” Kramer told Channel 13 News.
