A water conservation advisory expired Monday morning in Ottumwa.

The city issued the voluntary advisory on July 6th because of high nitrate levels in the Des Moines River where Ottumwa gets its water.

The nitrate levels have since dropped below the maximum amount allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Des Moines Water Works lifted a similar advisory on July 24th after spending $525,000 to lower the nitrate content to safe levels.
