The Department of Public Safety says there will be an increased a security presence at the State Fair this year but you won’t see it.
The DPS says it is adding additional undercover officers to the security staff at the fairgrounds.
You will see more security at the entrance gates to the fair. All bags brought into the fairgrounds will be subject to search at the gates.
Officers say they’ll also be depending on fairgoers to alert them to criminal activity.
Their motto this year is “if you see something, say something.”
The State Fair festivities kick off Wednesday night with the parade through downtown.
The parade runs its usual route starting at the Capitol then it heads west down Grand Avenue to 13th Street.
The 2013 Iowa State Fair starts Thursday and when the fairgrounds open you can find Channel 13 set up in our usual spot next to the administration building.
