The father of a Cherokee Indian girl at the center of an adoption dispute has been ordered to leave an Iowa National Guard base and return to Oklahoma.

Dusten Brown faces a charge of custodial interference after failing to turn over his 3-year-old daughter Veronica to her adoptive parents in South Carolina.

Brown said he unknowingly signed over his parental rights and never agreed to the adoption.

Brown is part of the Oklahoma National Guard and is training at Camp Dodge in Johnston.

Officials say extradition proceedings to return him to Oklahoma will begin once Brown has been taken into custody.
