Iowa Congressman Steve King took to the national airwaves to defend his statements on illegal immigrants.

King maintains there are far more children of illegal immigrants serving as drug runners, rather than valedictorians.

“You cannot do a background check on people that don’t have a legal existence in their home country, and the people that are advocating for this don’t understand the full scope.  So it’s time we had a national debate on what really happens with this.  My heart goes out to valedictorians who are brought here by their parents.  So does everybody’s in America,” King said.

Earlier this month Sen. Tom Harkin agreed with King when he said that our country’s immigration system is broken.

But Harkin added that the reform bill in the Senate would keep immigrant families together by giving them a chance to earn a way to stay in the country.
