Health experts warn a parasite making people sick this summer could continue spreading into the school year.

So far, cryptosporidium has made at least 203 people sick in Polk County since early July. The parasite causes severe diarrhea for up to thirty days.

The Polk County Health Department worked with local swimming pools to slow the outbreak, because pool water is a common way the illness is spread.

Now, the department will start working with schools to prevent the outbreak from spreading there.

Experts say to wash your hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds and wash fruits and vegetables.
