The Clive City Council will consider a proposal to resume use of the automated cameras on Thursday.
City leaders say their budget depends on the money generated by the cameras, at least for the next ten months.
Drivers have debated for years on whether or not the traffic cameras should stay or go.
In 2006, Clive became the first city in the metro to install red light traffic cameras, they now line Hickman Road.
The tickets came to an abrupt stop last month.
After failing to agree on a contract with Redflex Traffic Systems, the city pulled the plug on the cameras.
On Thursday, the council will vote on a new contract.
Under that deal a red light ticket would cost you $100, with Clive getting $69 and Redflex the remaining $31.
That's an increase from the last contract where Clive received just $44 a ticket.
The new contract also comes with a short time frame.
“The intention is this will only run through the end of June and then the whole operation would cease at that point in time,” says Clive City Manager Dennis Henderson.
Henderson says the deadline is needed because revenue was already budgeted for the year.
In June of 2014, Henderson says the city will likely get rid of the cameras for good and look for other ways to supplement the budget.
“As we develop the budget for that following fiscal year we`ll incorporate whatever means we need to into that budget to accommodate that change,” says Henderson.
The city is also looking at other safety measures along Hickman Road, including flashing yellow lights and modifying the traffic light timing system.
Last year the red light cameras resulted in 12,000 tickets.
The city says the cameras bring in an estimated $700,000 a year in revenue.
