Drivers heading westbound on Interstate 235 will have fewer exiting options after an overnight shutdown.
The closure of the 73rd Street exit in Windsor Heights will cause some traffic problems for the next two months.
Early Tuesday morning crews closed the westbound ramp. It is expected to remain closed until sometime in October.
Construction began on westbound I-235 between 63rd and 73rd streets back in April. The Iowa Department of Transportation is adding a lane between the two exits.
With nearly 100,000 cars traveling through the area each day the additional lane will help relieve some of the congestion of cars merging onto the interstate from 63rd and exiting at 73rd.
The DOT says it will not post a detour for the ramp closure, it says locals will be able to find their way around the construction.
Drivers can exit at 63rd, and head north to University. They can also exit on 22nd and head north to Westown Parkway, which connects to 73rd. Later, the westbound entrance ramp from 63rd Street will close for 11 days.
