Friday morning, 18 Iowans were honored at the Iowa State Fair with awards for their lifesaving efforts.

Among those honored is Nicholas Schroeder. Schroeder was an intern for the Urbandale Police Department earlier this year.

On March 3rd he was riding along with Officer Zac McDowell. The pair responded to an emergency and found a vehicle in flames with the driver still inside.

Schroeder pulled the teenage victim from the burning car while the officer looked for others passengers.

Since the fiery rescue, Nick has graduated from Iowa State University. He is now looking for a job as a police officer in Iowa or Nebraska.
