OWI ARREST: Driver Crashes Into Squad Car

A Des Moines police officer’s squad car was hit by a suspected drunk driver during a chase early Friday morning.

Police say Officer Jason Simms was pursuing a vehicle when his squad car was hit by another car at the intersection of 36th and Kingman. Police say the driver of the car that hit Simms, Aaron Taylor, was driving drunk.

Taylor was booked into the Polk County Jail on a charge of OWI.

The vehicle Officer Simms was originally chasing was stopped and the driver, Clarence Reed, was charged with eluding and OWI. He has bonded out of jail.

Police say Officer Simms was not injured in the crash.
