The boys from Urbandale survive. After jumping out to a 6-0 lead Urbandale holds on to beat Michigan 6-5 to advance in the Little League World Series. Urbandale finally gets the bats going. Brook Heinen hit a 3-run homerun, Carter Troncin added a solo shot. I can only imagine the feeling of going deep under the lights at the Little League World Series. Awesome.
Tip of the cap to Urbandale starting pitcher Grant Garwood. Garwood pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 13. The only reason he was taken out is because he reached his pitch count limit of 85 pitches. If Garwood stays in Urbandale likely cruises 6-0, but we needed some drama, right?
Brook Heinen had a game he will never forget. Not only did he smash a 3-run homerun, he also had one of the best catches you’ll ever see a little leaguer make. Heck, one of the best *catches* you’ll see. The catch was so good it was #1 on Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays. BMOC.
Urbandale advances to play the loser of Connecticut and Washington Monday night. Another elimination game.
What an awesome gesture by the Drake football team on Saturday. The Bulldogs adopted Jack Conlon of Clarion and make him an official member of the team. Jack is a 6 year old fan recovering from a brain tumor. Jack signed a national letter of intent, and even received a jersey and helmet. Awesome stuff. Well done, Drake.
The Hawkeyes held their annual ‘Kids day’ at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday. Rumor has it the Hawkeyes won.
Jake Rudock has all but been named the starting QB. Rudock took all the snaps with the #1 unit. Rudock will be the starter, and I’m guessing the backup will be Sokol/Beathard.
I expect the Iowa passing game to struggle this season and the running game to be very good. IF, and it’s a big if…If the passing game is good, the Hawks could be a sleeper team.
Anyone else ready for some football!!!!!
In other news, another major leaguer gets suspended for PED’s, Alex Rodriguez has lost his mind, and Usain Bolt is really really really fast.
