HUMAN REMAINS: Ames Skull ‘200 Years Old’
The Ames police department says a skull found last month is more than 200 years old.
Someone found the skull near the Skunk River, north of the old Carr Pool on July 2nd.
The skull and fragments were taken to the state medical examiner’s office.
Experts determined the skull belongs to a 25 to 40 years old female of American Indian ancestry.
Authorities were unable to determine a cause of death but say it happened some 200 years ago.
The remains will be taken to the state archaeologist’s office.
