A Louisiana sinkhole swallowed a group of cypress trees Wednesday as an official caught the amazing sight on camera.

According to The Advocate, the Assumption Parish sinkhole began forming in August of 2012 and is likely the result of a salt dome cavern failure deep underground. The watery sinkhole, located near Bayou Corne, is currently 24 acres.

Scientists say the sinkhole may take years to reach its final shape and size.
